The Three Layers of a Perfume

1. Top Notes

These are the first scents you smell after applying perfume.

Examples:

  • Lemon
  • Bergamot
  • Orange
  • Mint

Lasts: 5–30 minutes

2. Middle Notes (Heart Notes)

These appear after the top notes fade and form the main character of the perfume.

Examples:

  • Rose
  • Jasmine
  • Lavender
  • Cinnamon

Lasts: 1–4 hours

3. Base Notes

These provide depth and longevity.

Examples:

  • Vanilla
  • Sandalwood
  • Musk
  • Amber

Lasts: 4–24+ hours

Fresh

Clean and energizing.

Woody

Warm and natural.

Basic Perfume Formula

A simple beginner blend:

  • 30% Top Notes
  • 50% Middle Notes
  • 20% Base Notes

Example:

  • 3 drops Bergamot (Top)
  • 5 drops Lavender (Middle)
  • 2 drops Vanilla (Base)
